Mayank Agarwal scored an unbeaten 99 on his captaincy debut in the IPL but there was little support for him from other batters. His knock steered the Kings to 166 for 6. It was still below par and the Kings needed a good start with the ball.
Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw had other plans. The duo added 63 in the powerplay to break the back of the chase. Shaw fell for 39 off 22 but Dhawan played the anchor’s role to perfection, hitting timely boundaries to never let the required rate go out of hand.
In the end, it proved a cakewalk, with the Capitals even looking to improve their net run rate towards the end as they nailed down the target in 17,4 overs.
Dhawan finished unbeaten on 69* off 47 balls to take the Capitals to the top of the points table.
